Baton Rouge- A former Jonesville insurance agent has been arrested and charged with
a number of counts related to selling insurance without a license, and the records
of his insurance agency have been seized, the Louisiana Department of Insurance
has confirmed.
Aubry Roy Mophett, 74, of 103 First St., Jonesville, was arrested by Louisiana State
Police today on multiple counts of insurance fraud, felony theft, misappropriation
of premium and selling insurance without a license.
Mr. Mophett allegedly wrote numerous property and casualty insurance policies after
his licence expired in May of 1999. The Department of Insurance issued Mr. Mophett
a Cease and Desist order for operating without a valid license. The Fraud Section
of the Department of Insurance subsequently received information that Mr. Mophett
has written a number of property and casualty policies in violation of this Cease
and Desist order.
The Department of Insurance then filed an injunction in District Court against Mr.
Mophett for selling insurance without a license and violating a Cease and Desist
Order.
