Risk Management and Insurance in a Developing Economy: “Nigerian Perspective”

The Louisiana Department of Insurance, Division of Minority Affairs presented a symposium on insurance education to the students and faculty of Southern University and A&M College. The symposium was headlined by guest speakers Dr. Sam C. Onyeka and Dr. Talmiz Usman of the National Insurance Commission in Nigeria. Dr. Onyeka and Dr. Usman, both participants in the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) International Fellows Program, addressed many aspects of the insurance industry during their presentation, including current issues and trends, and careers in insurance.

The NAIC International Fellows Program is a four-five week-long program in which insurance specialists from various countries travel to the United States to work in areas of their expertise in an effort to advance working relations with foreign markets and exchange regulatory techniques and technology.
