Title License Qualifications
Act 310 of the 2020 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature set forth certain requirements for obtaining and maintaining a producer license for the line of Title Insurance. In order to be issued a producer license for title, an applicant must demonstrate that they meet these requirements.
Qualifications for an Individual Title Insurance Producer:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Be a resident of Louisiana or a full- time employee of a licensed title agency producer whose principal place of business is located in Louisiana.
- Hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Complete a 20-hour pre-license education course
- Pass the title license examination.
Resident applicants will complete pre-license education prior to sitting for the license examination. Proof of a high school diploma or equivalent must be provided with the license application and must be uploaded to the NIPR Attachment Warehouse at the time the application is filed via NIPR.
Nonresident applicants who are licensed for title in their home state are exempt from pre-license education and exam requirements but must verify full-time employment with a Louisiana resident agency producer by filing an Affidavit for Non-Resident Title Producer (Applicant) in conjunction with the license application and must be uploaded to the NIPR Attachment Warehouse at the time the license application is filed via NIPR.
In addition to the completed Affidavit, proof of high school diploma or its equivalent must also be uploaded to the NIPR Attachment Warehouse at the time of application.
Full-time employee means an individual who has established an employment relationship by having a full-time and exclusive availability as a W-2 employee or as a 1099 independent contractor with a licensed resident agency producer.
Qualifications for a Title Insurance Producer Agency:
- Be a Louisiana entity whose principal place of business is physically located in Louisiana or a foreign entity registered to do business in Louisiana whose principal place of business within Louisiana is suitable for conducting title insurance business and real estate closings.
- Designate at least one individual licensed for title insurance in Louisiana as responsible for the entity’s compliance. For a non-resident entity, the designated individual must be Louisiana resident.
- Maintain an appointment to represent a title insurer.
- The entity and the designated individual must not have had a producer license or its equivalent suspended, revoked or refused in any other state, province, district or territory.
To verify compliance with the above requirements, a resident title agency applicant must file an Affidavit of Agency Producer Applicant in conjunction with the license application. This document must be uploaded to the NIPR Attachment Warehouse at the time the initial license application is filed via NIPR.

Requirements for License Renewal:
Resident individual title licensees are required to comply with continuing education requirements in order to renew their license.
Non-resident title producers must file Affidavit of Non-Resident Title Producer (Current License Holder) in conjunction with a license renewal application.
Resident and non-resident title agencies must file Affidavit of Designated Individual Producer Responsible for Title Agency in conjunction with a license renewal application.
